Now, I realize that this will make sense to.. oh.. nobody, but here we go anyway:
So, animation fans, I mean, the hardcore animation fans, are bastards to each other. I mean, look, not every film is perfect, but there is A LOT of good animation out right now. I just don’t understand the Tangled hate.. the same people who 5 months ago were demeaning it as “Disney’s Next Disaster” now that has proven itself to not only be commercially viable (it’s the third highest grossing Disney Feature Film. Period.), as well as a fantastic piece of art, can still find things to complain about.
And, yes, the news of Glen Keane thinking about going to Dreamworks is startling, it’s not the end of the world.. Yes, to most Keane IS Disney animation, but he’s been there since the 70’s, and he spend the last 10 years working on ONE film, and maybe it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he went “across the street” for a while.
I’m not the biggest DreamWorks fan, but to deny that they don’t have an impressive upcoming slate, not counting Panda 2 or Dragon 2, they’ve got
- Peabody & Sherman
- The Croods – Chris Sanders next movie. And as much as I loved Dragon, I still don’t think it comes anywhere NEAR his masterpiece, Lilo & Stitch. I’m curious to see what he can do on a movie that isn’t behind schedule…
- Me & My Shadow – the hybrid 2-D/3-D by Mark Dindal (Chicken Little, Emperor’s New Groove, Cats Don’t Dance)
and that’s just the next few years!
alright. rant over.
